In many cases global analysis provides insufficient stress information in local areas. The sub-modelling technique of the Submod software module allows taking a closer look at details without refining the entire model. In fatigue analysis of floating vessels and complex jacket joints this approach is normally a requirement to obtain reliable results. Submod takes global model results and a local model as input to compute the boundary loads (prescribed displacements) along the edges of the local refined model.
