BREF assessment services for large combustion plants

Ensure your (industrial) combustion plant meets the new BREF LCP emissions requirements and safeguard your license to operate

Updates to the EU’s Best Reference (BREF) document for large combustion plants (LCP) mean that all 50 MW+ (thermal) plant have to comply with the new regulations by 2020. In reality, that means any plants applying for new permits from 2016 onwards must be compliant. Non-compliance can also impact your license to operate.

As a result, you need to know whether your installation fulfills the new emissions regulations, and which Best Available Techniques are most cost effective for you. DNV can help you gain the understanding and overview you need through an in-depth, fully independent assessment of your compliance with various BREFs and the BREF LCP in particular. This provides impartial evidence of your compliance and efforts, and whether you have achieved the Emissions Levels Associated with Best Available Techniques (BAT-AELS).

Compliance and Best Available Techniques
We put our know-how and knowledge of the BREF LCP to work for you. Through a combination of a desktop study and on-site visit to your installation, we check whether you comply with all of the new regulations and BAT-AELS.

You will receive a report detailing your compliance status and any compliance issues, as well as recommendations on cost-effective measures you can implement. The report not only lets you create an action plan, but you can also use it in your discussions with the Competent Authorities.

And you have the peace of mind of relying on our:

  • extensive, relevant experience and understanding of the challenges of the energy sector and industry
  • involvement and understanding of the BREF LCP
  • proactive approach, based on our extensive experience

Our know-how at your service
DNV has long-term experience with assessing the compliance of installations like yours against the 2006 BREF LCP requirements. And we have been involved in updating the standard since 2010, representing the Netherlands in discussions with the EU committee. So we are fully familiar with the content and the background of the new BREF LCP.

We also know the potential impact of the new BAT conclusions on your installation. So you can rely on our extensive know-how in the energy sector, as well as in the standards that govern it, to ensure that you are, and stay, compliant.
