DNV Korea signs exclusive binding MOU with Hanwha Ocean to cultivate a safe workplace

Supply Chain and Product Assurance (SCPA) team in Korea has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the world-class shipbuilder, Hanwha Ocean. This collaboration marks a pivotal initiative aimed at solidifying the dedication of both DNV and Hanwha Ocean to establish a safer shipyard workplace environment.

Through this partnership, DNV and Hanwha Ocean are jointly committed to the execution of comprehensive strategies with the objective of augmenting the safety and health management system integral to Hanwha Ocean’s operations for the next five years.

“The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will provide excellent opportunities to create synergies together, fostering a safe shipyard. We are taking significant steps forward to commit to our clients’ safer workplaces via a starting contract worth 2.8m NOK with Hanhwa Ocean, which includes a provisional option for a five-year scope extension,” stated Jang Sup Lee, the Area Manager of SCPA for DNV Korea.

Hanwha Ocean, previously known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and situated in Geoje, South Korea, has been a pivotal account for our Maritime business area, given its reputation as a world-class shipbuilder. The trust garnered in DNV’s Maritime capabilities over the past 50 years has been a crucial element and a core competitive advantage in securing the project. This has enabled the expansion of DNV’s services to encompass the health and safety of workers in shipyard and its supply chain network.

The SCPA’s Enterprise Safety Section in DNV Korea is composed of competent advisory experts who have extensive experiences over the years, working with a multitude domain of companies. DNV is committed to delivering improvement strategies, grounded in global best practices, that are tailored to address the unique strengths and weaknesses of Hanwha Ocean as identified through DNV’s quantitative assessment and coaching.
