In the container market, it may from a commercial point of view be beneficial to have the TEU class notation assigned to a ship in order to demonstrate the ship’s TEU capacity.
The class notation TEU may be assigned in order to demonstrate a ship’s capacity or the maximum number of twenty-foot equivalent containers (TEU) the ship may carry.
