Class notation for ships carrying Dangerous Goods in Bulk.

Print this page Save as PDF

Purpose

To provide verification that the ship is suitable for carrying some dangerous solid bulk cargoes as described in the BC-Code and that the ship is fitted with relevant safety equipment to ensure safe carriage, protect the ship and safeguard life.

Benefits

Suppliers and manufactures of dangerous goods have become more and more aware that they must ensure the safe handling of dangerous goods.

The notation will help you to document that your ship has "a ticket to trade" in dangerous goods.

The class notation denotes that the ship has been found suitable for the carriage of a specified range of dangerous solid bulk cargoes in designated cargo holds.

Features

The class notation for ships carrying dangerous goods verifies that the ship complies with the respective requirements of the BC-Code and SOLAS II-2 Reg.19 (old Reg. 54).

Process

The customer must request the DG-B class notation from DNV and preferably indicate what hazardous cargoes the ship intends to carry. The approval centre will then approve the relevant drawings. After approval (approx. 4 weeks), the ship will obtain the class notation and may notice an increase in demand.
