Project+certification+process

DNV’s project certification process can be used to effectively manage the risks associated with project specific details. This certification process involves the following in its scope:

Site assessment
Forming the basis of the project certification, this allows for the accountability of the uniqueness of the intended site. Involved in this assessment, consideration is given to soil properties, metocean conditions along with electrical network availability and hook up. These are then compared against their impact on the structure, foundations, moorings and general power output.

Foundation and mooring design evaluation
Due to the high variability of site specific environmental conditions, loadings, bathymetry and soil conditions, risk of failure or incompatibility of the foundations or moorings is quite prevalent. This evaluation captures and allows the management of associated risks and determines that the foundation and mooring are designed to exhibit the survivability and intended lifetime as outlined in the initial steps of the certification process (basis for certification).

Installation evaluation
Installation evaluation is carried out to ensure that one or more wave or tidal energy converters have been installed and commissioned in conformity with specific standards and other technical requirements.

Evaluation includes review of necessary documentation and surveillance of key stages of the installation and commissioning process.

Operation and maintenance surveillance
Each individual site will offer it’s own advantages in terms of power availability, and also it’s own hurdles that will look to decrease operability and increase the necessity of maintenance.

Surveillance of the operation phase of the project shall be carried out to verify that the system is operating as expected from the design process, and also to ensure that the agreed maintenance activities are carried out as agreed in the certification.

The Project Certificate is issued once DNV is in agreement with the client that there are no outstanding issues relating to the deployment of the specific device to the site in question.
